Dr. Leopoldo Javier Rios Gonzalez

Professor & Researcher at FCQ, UAdeC

Research professor and currently Director of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, Mexico. He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology and has more than 15 years of experience in biofuel production processes from biomass. He leads the research group “Algroup,” whose objective is to achieve the conceptualization of an Agave lechuguilla biorefinery in northeastern Mexico, where multiple products aligned with the country’s needs can be obtained. In 2016, he received the Environmental Merit Award from the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila and the Premio Ambiental Coahuila in 2017 in the research category. To date, he has published more than 50 original research articles in indexed journals and is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores e Investigadoras (SNII) in Mexico, Level I.

Dr. Thelma Karina Morales Martinez

Academic Profile: Dr. Thelma Karina Morales Martínez dis a distinguished Mexican academic and researcher at the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila (UAdeC). Her career is dedicated to advancing biotechnology and the sustainable exploitation of natural resources. She holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology with a specialization in Biocatalysis. Research Interests: Bioprocess Biotechnology: Development of methods for producing high-value-added compounds. Agro-industrial Waste Valorization: Research focused on the circular economy, transforming organic waste into biofuels or useful chemical products. Extraction of Bioactive Compounds: Application of emerging technologies to obtain antioxidants and other secondary metabolites from natural sources. Industrial Microbiology: Study and application of microorganisms in fermentation and biotransformation processes. Contributions and Recognitions: National System of Researchers (SNII): She is an active member of the SNII (Level I), a distinction awarded by CONAHCYT that recognizes the quality and impact of her scientific production at a national level. Scientific Production: She has published numerous articles in high-impact international peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to specialized book chapters in the field of biotechnology. Teaching and Mentorship: In addition to her laboratory work, she serves as a professor at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advising students specializing in chemical and biotechnological sciences.

Dr. Roberto Arredondo Valdez

Professor & Researcher at FCQ, UAdeC

He is a professor at the Universidad Autonoma de Coahuila, specializing in nanobiotechnology, phytopathology, extraction of natural compounds and microbiology. He is member of the National System of Researchers at Level 1 (SNII1), He has made contributions to the field through research focused on synthesis of nanocomposites for median and agronomic applications, evaluation of plant and microbial extracts, preparation and evaluation of bioformulations for the control of plant pathogens and weeds, among others. Currently, he is engaged in research projects that investigate the synthesis and evaluation of nanocapsules for medical and agronomic applies, enzymatic activity in plants treated with secondary metabolites, and the herbicidal activity of nano- and micro-encapsulated plant and microbial extracts. In addition to research, He has served as both director and co-director of undergraduate and graduate theses. His work has been recognized through numerous national and international scientific publications in the mentioned areas.

Dr. Miguel Angel Medina Morales

He is a full-time professor at the School of Chemistry, Autonomous University of Coahuila, in the area Environmental Biotechnology since 2019. In 2017 he was part of a research team that were recipients of the Tritio Award given by the Autonomous University of Coahuila. He has over 45 papers in scientific journals in the JCR and published book chapters in 2006 and 2022. He graduated as Biologist Chemist (2008) at the Autonomous University of Coahuila (UAdeC). He obtained a MSc Degree in Food Science and Technology (2009) by the same institution. In 2012 he obtained his PhD in Food Science and Technology held in the Autonomous University of Coahuila. He had a two years postdoctoral stay in the Antonio Narro Agrarian Autonomous University from 2015 to 2017. He has been granted funding projects from the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies and is the principal advisor of several masters and PhD projects. His lines of research cover bioprocessing plant materials to recover high added-value bioactive compounds, solid state fermentation, biorefinery concept and biofuels production. He is a member of National Researchers System (SNII) since 2017 and recently has been promoted to level II.

Dr. Claudia Magdalena Lopez Badillo

PhD in Metallurgical and Ceramic Engineering from Cinvestav-Saltillo and her BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Autonomous University of Coahuila, where she currently serves as a Full Professor and researcher. Her research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of ceramic and composite biomaterials for biomedical applications, particularly those with antibacterial and anticancer functionalities. Her expertise includes solid-state reactions, sol–gel processing, mechanochemical activation, and green synthesis methods.

Dr. Jose Antonio Rodriguez de la Garza

Dr. José Antonio Rodríguez de la Garza is a full-time professor-researcher at the School of Chemistry of the Autonomous University of Coahuila (UAdeC), where he contributes to Environmental Biotechnology, with a particular emphasis on bioelectrochemical systems, wastewater treatment, and sustainable bioprocesses adapted to semiarid environments. He holds a PhD in Biotechnology and has developed an academic trajectory characterized by the integration of research, teaching, and technological innovation. He has participated in and led multiple externally funded research projects, resulting in the publication of more than 40 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters with recognized international publishers. Dr. Rodríguez has extensive experience in human resources training, supervising numerous undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral theses, and contributing to the consolidation of academic programs in biotechnology. His research interests include microbial fuel cells, biofilm-based systems, biodegradation of recalcitrant compounds, and the development of bioinputs and bioenergy from native resources of arid and semiarid regions. He is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNII), Level I, and holds the PROMEP profile. His work reflects a commitment to advancing environmental sustainability through science while cultivating a new generation of biotechnologists with both rigor and imagination.
